The things people carry
Belongings stay with their owner, villagers find a little room to themselves, and the grass gives way beneath their feet.

A basket, a pair of boots, the logs someone was carrying home: the things people carry are becoming part of their lives in the valley.
Today’s work brings that idea to a harder part of life in the valley. A person can die, and what they carried remains with them. Around that, smaller changes give the living a little more presence: recognisable faces, space between workers, a break by the water, and grass bending beneath their feet.
What stays behind
Pressing E beside a fallen person opens their belongings alongside your backpack. You can drag a stack across, take one item with a right-click, or take as much as fits with Take All. If your pack fills, the remaining things stay where they are. The body remains until its belongings have all been taken.
Clothing is part of that inventory too. Taking a worn garment removes it from the body. A farmer’s or forager’s basket is an item they actually own, and the goods being carried can be recovered with their other possessions. The tools on a workplace’s rack and the stock in its chest stay at the workplace.
The loss also reaches the town ledger. A bed and job become free, and the death is recorded in the survivors’ journals. This currently applies to the town’s people, including your own settlers; animals keep their separate butchering interaction.
A little room to themselves
Villagers now draw their appearance from the same choices available to the traveller: hair, skin, eyes and facial features. Haircuts and colours are kept distinct while the town still has unused choices, helping each person read as themselves across the green.
Workers also spread out when there is work further away. At a natural pause, with nothing in their hands, they can leave their task for a spot in a tree’s shade or on a bank looking over the water. Their temperament helps set how long they work and rest. These are standing breaks for now; a fuller pass on villagers’ animations is still ahead.
Grass beneath their feet
The grass now bends outward and down in a smaller patch around a body. That response includes villagers as well as the traveller, whether walking or standing still. The blades remain visible, rooted in the ground.

Before After
The same standing-player review view before and after. The smaller patch keeps the response close to the person; it is not a lasting trail worn into the meadow.
There is still work to do. Fallen bodies currently use the held end of an existing lying-down animation, rather than a new death animation. The basket’s inventory icon is a stand-in. The town and its belongings still reset when the world is replaced; saving them is not implemented yet.
Existing October 24 development captures: the Loot review at 1440×900 with several scenery effects disabled, and the grass comparison at 960×720. The inventory was seeded for inspection; the grass views use a separate standing-player setup. No new gameplay captures were made for this entry.
